The clothing industry, as you can well imagine, is a very competitive one. To succeed takes knowledge, patience, talent and a bit of luck. As far as the knowledge bit goes, I found some sources that will assist you further.
Associations may be a good avenue to explore as well. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have about the clothing industry as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

you have to go to design school before any company will accept you. and also to start your own design company it does also help to know what you are doing you can't just design something and give it to your friend to sew it doesn't work like that. i suggest you watch the beginning of project runway tonight on Bravo at 9:00

you have to go to a design school... i am actually this coming fall... I'm going to FIDM in LA... actually where the show "the hills" is partially taking place.. so yeah im reallyyy excited =] but sorry enough about me.. there are some i think in NY too... FIT, and Parson's School of Design... [where project runway takes place]... but i'm not really too sure on others..
