there are so many other options out there. some costs cheaper with more memory too. it may not look as nice but a music player is a music player, right? also, a lot of personal electronics such as cell phones and a PSP could play music too. so just curious, does anybody believe that iPODs aren't as widely preferred or popular anymore? express any opinions of it!

Yes. But slowly.

It's like Internet Explorer. Firefox is moving up slowly with about 9.5% of the market.

Sandisk is moving up slowly with about 15% of the market.

Right now My Ipod is pretty much effed up Im actually about to call Apple about this problem. But I think the Ipod is pretty popular. Apple may not have invented the Mp3 but they are user friendly and that is why it has been popular. And yes it is true that a PSP or Phones can play music but with your PSP you have to upgrade your memory-its a little more bulky and with the phone I prefer I dont have music playing all the time-could war out the battery.

No, iPOD isn't going down anytime soon. They have such a huge market share, and they've demonstrated that the populace wants nifty looking, easy to use devices, which I think Apple still has a firm grasp of. Plus, Itunes is still the easiest, most well known, most preffered site to download songs from.

True, Apple will need to keep up with costs and amounts of memories in order to maintain their market share in the long run. But in the short run, I think they're doing just fine.

It's too entrenched to be "going down" but it will soon face even stiffer competition when Microsoft introduces its own music player.
