Well after what seems like a firytale two years and X many months now I feel completely confident that his is the girl for me, however, i know she wouldn't want to be engaged until we have an appartment together and she has her job secure at her salon. So my question is, do you think promise rings are stupid? Do you think i should get her one? I just really want to marry this girl, we are awesome together and we have a great times, we never fight, we disagree sometimes, but for the most part it's smoothe sailin with great sex. So here's the big question, do i get her a promise ring, or do i just ask her to marry me with a real ring knowing that she will probably say no to the real thing if i ask only due to her wanting to have a secure job and an appartment with me before we get engaged? Thanks for any advice, i've been sweating this one for a while now.

If you keep waiting for her job to be secure and have this and that nothing will ever happen. I wanted my own home and the car paid off and a secure job before i got married and had kids and realised at 33years old sometimes you just have to go for it. tell her you can have a long engagement.

Why would she say no? She can always say yes and secure her job and everything else before you actually get married, that's why it is called engaged, you can still take care of the things you feel need to be secured before the marriage, a promise ring is not stupid, but if you love her and want to marry her let her know, life is short, tomorrow is never promised so neither should the ring.

I am assuming if you have been together this long and she is working that you are adult and out of school. If that is the case ,I would go ahead and go for the real thing. If people waited until all conditions were perfect financially and otherwise - only about 5% of the population would be married! There will always be something that can potentially hold you back from making big commitments.Sometimes you do have to go with your heart. Just make sure you do understand her concerns and sit down to work out a plan together for getting an apartment etc. You could be working toward this goal as you plan the wedding. Maybe one or the other of your parents/families could help as a wedding gift?

If all is good, what's to sweat?

No one is ever "financially stable" enough unless they are an heir/heiress.

You are afraid she will reject you, or feel pressured. Your logic prevents you form getting her a nice engagement ring because you're saving for the future.

Face your fears and find out where this relationship really is....if you want to marry her, ask for her hand. The two of you can then decide when, where and how you can tie the knot. Good luck !

P.S. Promise rings are for kids.

She is definitely searching for stability, I think promise rings is definitely the way to go if she states that she first want to get to know you on that level living together, she probably loves you a great deal so make the miniature move and give her a promise ring, that symbolizes that you are ready to commit and that YOU love her. She will definitely let you know when she is ready to become engaged.

I bet you she won't say no if you ask her to marry her, there is nothing wrong with a long engagement while you both get an apt and she get secure in her job.
