Go to consumer digest and find rating for them. As far as a play yard for a crib, they say they are only good till the baby's weight is 15 lbs., for the bassinet attachments. If you do not have money then go to craigslist.org and buy a used crib.

i used the jeep stroller with both of my boys. it has little bags on both sides, cupholders, a 'glove compartment' and the basket below. so it was wonderful for storage and travel. we go to zoos and stuff a lot and a lot of places like that don't alow you to bring any food or beverage. we went to sea world and they even sold gerber baby food at the restaraunt we went to. anyways, it's great for hiding things. all of my carseats were second hand so before buying them i just made sure that they had never been in a car accident. if you go to a consignment store they will usually make sure of that before taking it in to sell. i'm guessing the reason that you want to use a play yard as a crib is because cribs take up a lot of room. i would recomend a portable crib instead because play yards don't provide the support that a crib does that babies need. in some places they're called a grandmothers crib. they are smaller and will hold a child until about 12 months old depending on weight. i used one because i shared a room with my boys when they were babies. my boys were so bad about climbing out of the crib by that age that i went ahead and put them in twin beds. because these mattress sizes are hard to find all of the portable cribs in the link below come with the mattress. i hope this helps.

I agree that using a portable crib is not going to be good for baby's back.
It may be fine for a few months, but once there's a good amount of weight, the play yards just don't hold up baby's back very well.
Not to mention that by a 18 months my kids could climb out of those things in half a second.
So unless you can find a real crib mattress to use in the portable crib, you'll need a real crib too pretty soon.

I googled these items to find a free site that rated safety, and then I checked Babies R Us, Target and Walmart online to get pricing and consumer ratings. I put all that together, made a list, and went shopping. I just upgraded her car seat, so I know for sure that the Britax line is the safest, but also very expensive. However, I figured out of all those items the car seat was probably one I should spend more $$ on. Have fun, and good luck!

The bassinette part of the play tard is good but the full size part as a crib is no a good idea..They do have a weight limit on the bottom part as well..There is also not alot of cushion..Not good so good for a growing baby/toddler to sleep on..It may hurt their back and neck..buy a crib It;s a good investment and you will use it long term...2+ years here....Get a used one for about the same cost and get a used pack n play....

I say Graco all the way! Their Quatro Tour System is an amazing stroller/car seat combo and is very reasonably priced. As far as the play yard, their pack n play is great! Well worth it!

i also thought i would use a play yard for a crib, but truth is its just not feasible.its very uncomfortable for the baby, as he/she needs a firm, thich mattress with absolutely flat support beneath it. As your baby gets older, the mattress tends to sag, which is awful for your baby's spinal development. Try a portacrib or a cheaper crib (have you checked toys r us or babies r us. Kids furniture outlets should have some good buys. do some research.

with the car seat try finding one that is convertable.... they might be expensive at first but you dont have to worry about buing another when your babys 1...with the play pin i just used a Graco...it had music and vibration in it.

The best car seat by far is the Britax. They are expensive, but they are worth every penny!
