Heard that ice can carry bacteria, fecal matter, etc. even e-coli, when handled by workers who don't wash their hands.

I do not like ice in my drinks. It is really hard to order a drink sometimes without ice...people think you are being difficult and just "forget" or else they really do forget.
I live in a place where we do not have chlorinated water, so when I travel drinks served with ice made from chlorinated water taste like bleach to me. I try all the time to get drinks without ice usually with little success. I have heard on TV that ice can transmit hepatitis A and B,so you are definitely on the right track, so good luck with that!

I saw a special on tv about that too. How ice dispensers carry germs, Was pretty sick. Think about it in the resturants where you fix your own drinks, how many people touch that ice machine. And all the ones that arent cleaned right and on a regular bases. And this was local and very common resturants, McDonlds, Taco bell, burger king. No I do NOT get ice.

Valid question, especially if overseas. Here in the good ol' US of A, the risk is not as high. True, one could contract some sort of undesirable result due to improper handling of the ice in their drink, but in my brief 51 years I've never had it happen to me in this country and I eat out a lot.

In the West I'd say ice was no problem, in less developed countries ice is often carted around wrapped in sacking, in the backs of pick up trucks. That needs thinking about, as water is one of the most common sources for stomach problems.
