How are arguments won?

How can anyone agree with the opposition if both parties constantly state conflicting opinions?

When there is a compromise, does one party win?

Let's apply this to all types of arguments be they political, or relationship based.

I don't like to argue, as it is usually too long and drawn out... And what about the "agree to disagree" ploy, --- bu11shit, right?...

I prefer to settle things in The Pit... No compromise there!
But, then again,...
... I'm "old school"...

The purpose of an argument is, basically, to prove one is correct. Everyone loves being right, it's just that some people have a major problem with being wrong while others can go on and not be bothered by it.

You can also argue with somebody not to just prove you are right, but to prevent them from being wrong, and from looking foolish or simply living in ignorance.

Arguments can be one by someone proving they are correct, and the other party understanding that they were indeed wrong and coming into agreement with the first party.

The definition of a compromise should prevent only one party from winning, but some arguments turn into what someone would call a compromise just by having one person in the argument "giving in" and just letting the other have their way.

Technically in a compromise both parties should win, they just won't have won as much as they originally wanted. So compromises are win-win... but only that. Not WIN YAY-WIN YAY :P

Someone can agree with the opposition only if the conflicting opinion somehow gets proven correct, or if it's stated in a way that will change the others own opinion completely. This is a very rare case indeed.

The purpose of an argument is to get what you want.

Arguments are won through conversations, persuasions, intimidation's, or sheer will.

Until the conflict has exhausted itself, viewers on the side lines are just pons used by the arguers.

Compromises can result in a: 1) Loose, Loose situation 2) Loose - Win Situations 3) Win - Loose Situation or 4) Win-Win Situation. It's all relative to the compromises.

The purpose of an argument is to change the opposition's mind by threatening him or talk to him.
The purpose of a compromise is to find a common ground where we both get out with something. No one actually win when there is a compromise, but it solved the conflict.

I guess there is no way to finish some arguments by agreeing with each other. It is because there are values and basics believes that underlay all other opinions and some of them are just opposite. Ultimately, the end of the argument is 1. get the truth straight 2. make the other guy believe in what you want him to believe in. See: Habermas.

To defend what's yours. An argument lets the other party know what your boundaries are. Violence occurs when verbal warnings are ignored. Both sides win because you both learn more about the other party's strengths and weaknesses, and consequently can develop new fighting strategies for future arguments...the best part is making up...that can get pretty physical too...lol.

Arguements are basically the desire to dominate or win a debate or difference with another

Arguements cannot be won, they are destined for failure fromthe start

I find it doesnt matter whos fault it is it matters how you fix it, how you deal with it, how you accept it if you cannot compromise

And dont forget to walk and act with Love through the whole thing, thats the hard part sometimes....but also the most important part

The purpose of an argument is to fill our lifes with somethin to do.

If you find the answer to this one let everyone know. Then we could get rid of War, etc.

No one wins in an argument, usually they are both losers for arguing. You should be able to talk and disagree and not argue.

For the feeling of power or control. I haven't had an arguement in over 10 years....it's useless. I will not give that sensation of control to anyone. I have better things to do. But I DO love a good conversation!

Arguments should be designed to give all facts and anecdotes to support a person's opinion.

Compromise is not a win-lose; it is designed to be a win-win. However, some compromises are WIN!!!!! - ummm w i n.
