You should uninstall messenger, restart the computer and then re-install. If you still have problems, try installing a third party application like Trillian. You can login to Yahoo Messenger from there although it doesn't support all the smiley's.

It's because IM's are not compatible with windows 2000, or I should say that messengers latest version (7.5) is not compatible with Windows 2000

Unistall the messenger from your computer and re-install it. Maybe they have upgraded the software since you last installed it? It happened to mine. Wouldn't work properly so I uninstalled the whole thing and started again. Its easy and its free.
Also, make sure you are not signed in "invisible"

u are running windows 2000 in its self that is a problem.....but it isnt your windows that is causing the problem....its your messy and jscript applications....if u are running the new messy that one is not as good as some of the older ones ....go to add and remove programs and take out your messy and go to this site and get the 1922 messy http://www.freecreed.com/ymsgr-archive.html# then go to update your java applacation at http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp after restarting your puter and u have your new messy go to options and set up your messy the way u want it .....if that doesnt help get back to me and we will find out why !

its never happened to me but i do get regular other problems with yahoo and msn. i usually delete and re install. dont worry about adresses etc, the mainframe system at yahoo keeps em safe on your account, hope it works xx

attempt to do a equipment fix by ability of the administration panel, in equipment upkeep, and then backup and fix centre. Take it back a week or as a thanks to once you had no complications with your equipment.
