Uh, sorry Nick M, but that is not going to work.

1. Reboot the computer.

2. WHILE THE COMPUTER IS BOOTING and you see the Windows screen, you need to enter "safe mode". Assuming you are using Windows XP, this is how you get into safe mode:

A. Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you can press the F8 key when the Boot Menu appears.

B. Select an option when the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, and then press ENTER.

C. When the Boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode" appear in blue at the bottom, select the installation that you want to start, and then press ENTER.

3. Change the screen resolution in safe mode (it will not actually invoke the change).

4. Reboot the computer regularly (no safe mode).

If the previous doesn't work, you can boot into safe mode, then decrease the display to something you know your monitor can handle like 640x480. Reboot and set it higher or to your previous setting. When you are doing that, you can always hit escape if you accidentally choose a rate you can't show. Also if you go tot he display properties and hit the Advanced button and go to the Monitor tab, you can check a box that says 'hide modes this monitor cannot display' so it should keep you automatically within your monitor's limits.

I was thinking you could boot in Safe Mode, Go to Device Manager, remove the driver from the Display Option

Then Reboot and let Windows find the video card and reinstall the drivers......
