well first you should have a guitar player a bass player and a drummer. Thats pretty essential. You need those to have a band. If one of you cant sing you need a singer too.

Practice allt he time. Garages and basements are good places. Find song you guys all like and go fromt here. Get good before you worry about playing shows.

Well for starters you will have to figure who will do what...who will be the lead singer...who will play drums...who will play lead guitar...who will play bass guitar...will you have a rhythm guitar player?? It helps if you have played these instruments for awhile... Now decided on your sound...who are your influences?
Will you be a punk band or have an indie emo sound?
Or do you want to play folk alternative...death metal...etc..
Next you need to decide who will write the songs a good band is not a cover band they have original material...
Some bands write their songs together creatively...
I actually write the songs for my band I am the singer/ rhythm guitarist....I then take the songs to practice and the band as a whole works up the music around the lyrics and rhythm guitar part I created...
Okay now work up a song with just lyrics and rhythm guitar part...and decide were to practice garages or basements are ideal....you are now ready to build upon this initial song discover your sound and then choose a name for your band...
Good luck...

1. Get needed items.
2. Get a name.
3. Practice.
4. Play in your garage (Show the public what you can do)
5. Play in a big public area.
6. Find someone to sponsor you... but i think that's going to far.

Well, first you need to know how to play musical instruments. Very well! Also, you need vocal talent. And you should be able to read & write music.
