oh 12, how cute :)
I think thats a funny age, they start to think they are 21 lol.
I would hire a bouncy castle. I know her firends will think its babyish, but as soon as they get passed the "im toooo cool for that"they would have a great time.
Or book a good venue , get a disco going and hire a look alike of her favourite pop star.
Or choose 3 friends for her to go on a shopping spree, you could hire a limo to pick em all up :)
Or Offer her all the money you would of spent on party etc so she can spend it on what she likes.

Wow, birthday parties are a lot bigger than they used to be! I had cake and ice cream and a 2 hour party at my house....
Anyway, what about a spa party? Manicures, pedicures, etc? Or if she wanted to pick one or two special friends and you take them to a nearby fun city (for instance, I'm 2 hours from Memphis), spend the night and sightsee. Or, maybe a fancy dinner at a nice restraunt? What about a bead shop where they make their own jewelry?
Whatever you do, remember that the next birthday is an even bigger one, so be prepared to outdo this one! Good luck!

Have another party. I hate people who give their kids so much at such a young age. My son's friends parents give their kids boat parties and all these extravagent things that adults should do. I surely don't like that limo thing. That isn't for young kids. She is only 12. Maybe try another sleep over.

12? she will want to feel a bit more grown up but she aint that grown up...
So no clowns or baby food if you get the drfit but brownies allowed...
Try a mini disco but this way...
Cover the walls in bin lines... black ones and card over windows to black out the house is nec.
Hire UV/Ultraviolet / Black light strip lights... Lots to cover the house.
Get flourescent pait or dye to dye string... run it over the house in lines or pattern like spyograph... lots of cut up UV paper or plasic struck to the bin liner walls.
Maybe use washable uv hairspray on said bin liners,
Badly painted/splatter objects made from say EVA foam or card etc...
When the UV is on all glows in the dark adding great atmosphere.
Maybe pape mache or broken polystylene blacks as rocks, splatter painted
Add a smoke machine to really add atmosphere ... makes disco lights fantasic
Cheap, takes time but the look should be fantasic...
Beam disco lights NOT spread ones ie 'scanners' to be hired, if you have the cash a laser but unlikley.
Now you can add a fancy dress theme, DJ for the music, let them play their own, poss a horror party (bit young for doctors and nurses).
Remember glow in the dark... try a glowing pentagrm on the ceiling
With atmosphere, smoke (as in let the walls dissappear) they are more likly to dance if not you still have the atmosphere...
Lots of mini candles in the garden.
********************
Paintball depends on the maturity of those involved... yes its fun but if a kid takes off the goggles when all the guns are not down, on the ground even if not playing and is hit in the eye...
THEIR EYEBALL WILL EXPLODE ON IMPACT... That is NOT an exageration and they will wish they were dead with the volume of pain... Plus all the trip over things injuries and sprained ankles so will need boots to prevent that...
12 is a little young for that... try Quasar or Laser Quest instead... like lasergun paintball but with above atmosphere.

There is always the idea of a camp out at a family oriented camping ground. Rent an RV for the weekend, bring the marshmallows and cocoa, a list of nature activities, trailmix and you're all set. Check your local listings for KOA Campgrounds.

Since you're planning ahead so far (good for you!), you could check if there're any fancy theater or traveling broadway shows your daughter and co. would like. Expensive! so only a few could go, but so fun - one of my friends took us to see "Beauty and the Beast", and that's one of my favorite birthday memories.
If her birthday's late in November, you could all decorate gingerbread houses.
Or, are they into sports? If yes, you could check out the rock gym.
Hmmm - sometimes clubs or centers hold big swing or salsa lessons that are open to all ages; I LOVED those when I was 12.
Well, good luck planning!

ok stay with me here, you start by getting everyone whos invited round and they have to bring at least two outfits with them, then you do hair, make up and outfits like you are going out then have a room set up like a club/pub or if you can afford it hire a dj and serve cocktails (non alcoholic) and nibbles

I would suggest you insert additional info to advise where you are, eg, in USA or UK? Then at least insert your state or county.
As you are getting advice based around 2 different countries so if you are in the USA, UK locations are pointless and vice versa....
An interesting idea is for all girls to come to a party dressed as their heroes.
