Well apart from that, there is no single "British accent." Like anywhere else, we have many and varied regional accents. Which British accent did you have in mind? Geordie? Doric? West Country? Norn Irish?

Hong Kong was under British rule for many years and the British taught the residents to speak English.

However, your assumption is wrong. I know many Oriental people that learned to speak English and they do not have a British accent.

I'm with venus11224 on this one. I know you emphasized the word 'learning' but I've never heard a Chinese person with any form of English accent.

because most of the south east asian countries (singapore, malaysia, etc) and some parts of china were colonies of Britain.

i'm a student in singapore and here, they follow the british education system (O and A levels) and teach British english

but we most definitely do not have a British accent. in fact, we don't have accents at all!! be it chinese or english, there are no detectable accents, except, of course, the famous singlish
