Zidane headbutted the Italian player Mazeratti because Mazzerati
said something mean to Zidane and the referee did not see it so
Zidane got really mad and did the headbutt.

The general theory is that it was a typical insult about his mother. Which a great veteran player of experience like Zidane must have heard hundreds of times, especially after playing in the Italian league. I say this because we latins have a tendency to insult you by insulting your mother or your family. Anyway, it seems that it got to Zidane because his mother is really sick.

Have you not been following what everyone else has been asking? My answer to you and everyone else who asked this dumb question over and over again is that there have been no official comments from Zidane that specify exactly what Materazzi said as of Wednesday, July 12, 2006. "He was due to speak on Frrench pay TV network Canal Plus at 1800 GMT."
Click on the line below to get a clue. It took me two second to find this, you could have done it too.

Materazzi, 32, told Gazetta dello Sport: 'I held his shirt for a few seconds only, then he turned to me and talked to me, jeering.
'He looked at me with a huge arrogance and said, "If you really want my shirt I'll give it to you afterwards". I replied with an insult, that's true.'
Materazzi has not elaborated on what he did say, but one report suggested he responded with: 'I'd rather take the shirt off your wife'.
He has denied, however, some of the more vile insults referring to his wife or sister or calling him a terrorist.
'It was one of those insults you're told dozens of times and that you often let fall on a pitch,' Materazzi said.
'I did not call him a terrorist. I am not a cultured person and I don't even know what an Islamist terrorist is.'
He added: 'For me the mother is sacred, you know that.'
The incident marked an unsavoury end to Zidane's career, especially as France went on to lose the match on penalties. The 34-year-old had said he would retire.

according to the british press the italian player said some pretty nasty things to Zidane about his family and called him a pretty bad name. so Zidane whacked him in the chest with his noggin, which is alot less then what i would have done.

the italian player first pinched Zidane on his chest which really got Zidane irritated and then he called Zidane and his sister a terrorist which actually resulted in that one - of - a - kind headbutt.

Whatever you hear, whatever you read from here, from the media anywhere in the world is all conjecture, speculation, hearsay, halftruths, lies, opinions, viewpoints, rumors, etc etc - it was a spat between Zidane and Materazzi - and only they can tell you... THEIR INDIVIDUAL VERSIONS. Don't indulge in trivia!!!

Materazzi allegedly called Zidane "son of a terrorist whore'. If it's true, that guy deserves more than a quick.
