Maradona. He was the maestro during the 1986 worldcup when there were other talented players(platini, zico, socrates etc). He was the reason why the argentine team won that world cup. He won numerous titles for Napoli (a mediocre team) against other soccer giants such as Milan and Juventus studded with great players. Pele was lucky to play during an era of offensive football and had the privilege to play next to other talented players such as Garincha.

Watch the games of both Pele and Maradona - you can watch them on youtube also. and you will see why there is no comparison --- Maradona is way more skilled and he played all over the field --- when he dribbled the ball, there was no commotion, it was clear and clean --- Pele had skills, great skills and he was a striker who could finish but Maradona is the greatest player of the century. If you were to choose a team of 11, would you rather have Diego Maradona in an opponent team or Pele? What would scare you more? And you will have your answer.
The man alone took us to the finals of 1990 and out of fear of seeing Argentina as another world cup winner, FIFA and the devil Havelange took 2 of our players out of the game in finals with redcard for clean tackle, awarded a penalty to west Germany which everyone knows was not a penalty and it happened few minutes before the end of the game so there could be no equalizer.
In 1994, when Diego came back again, FIFA was so scared that they had to cut his legs for good by banning him from soccer for life.
Why? Because he was the first one to stand up against FIFA and ask that the games be held at night instead of the sun,
he was the first one to make open remarks and be passionate about it and he was the first one who stuck to his roots.
Do you know that in 2006, Beckenbauer invited him to the world cup party and maradona said he went to germany to watch world cup not to meet beckenbauer and pele etc. He is a real human being who sat in the gallery in argentine jersey cheering his team as another fan, instead of in the ac box in a suit and behaving like a better than everyone else.

I'm a huge fan of Argentine soccer, but I don't think it is a fair question, because there is no real basis for comparison. It's like comparing Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain in basketball. They both had talent and skill that surpassed their peers, but they both played under radically different eras. Just because Maradona came after Pele means that Maradona must be better? Or that because Pele did it first, Maradona is relegated to being a wanna-be? They both elevated the game of their time to levels no one else could.

it was hands down maradona. Wen Pele played, they had like frikkin half the team as midfield's so scoring was reel easy cas there wud be like 2 defenders and a goalie. When MAradona did it though, there were atleast 3 or 4 defenders per team, and very few mids, which position he played. Maradona was also a playmaker not just a goal scorer, if u watched Pele play, he rarely passed, he was like C. ROnaldo, overrated, and a pretty boy. He was also tiny and weak. I dont wanna be dissing Pele cas he is the second best alltime, but I'm just saying he cant be compared to MAradona.

Maradona took drugs and scored with his hand which would be "cheating." We have to count all these factors in before we compare Maradona with Pele who always maintained the fairness of games.

maradona. !!! pele played ina different generation where football wasnt played at the pace its played during the era of maradona.
maradona created the game when he was on the field. No one has more vision of the game till today then diego armando maradona.. go check out various websites on maradona you will see the video clips of his greatness and his skill of the game. If he cheated during 1986 world cup. well england deserves it. look what he gave to Napoli!!
