hmm...i think you're deliberately making this a gender question!

i bet if you asked the question 'why do men always believe they're right' you'd pretty much get the same answers as the ones here.

i think the better question would be 'why does everyone on all sides of an argument think that they're right' ? and the answer of course would be cos everyone's entitled to their own opinion, and just cos we disagree doesn't make us 'right' it just means we have different perspectives. which makes life a damn sight more interesting.

or the short answer could be....because we usually are right!

i am woman...hear me roar!!!

hee hee

It's all about different opinions. The worst thing to see is 2 women arguing that they are right, when both of them have their "facts" correct, making them both right(trust me on this, I have a friend who always argues with me). It's true that about 98% of all women believe they are right. Due to the facts they know, 96% of those women ARE right!
For example, if you told me that all the stars in the sky are all white, I would "no, they're not!" and begin the argument. Basically, the stars "look" white, but if you look long enough, you can see blue stars and even red stars. And that's not looking at the planets, which can be seen and mistaken as stars to those who don't know the difference yet(like my 10-year-old cousin who was just learning about them). So, it would seem we are BOTH right, but because the other person either
1. does not respect the other person's opinion,
2. is too stubborn to see they are both right, or
3. thinks the other person is full of it and wants to hear them say they are wrong, the argument will continue.
I think women naturally love to argue, and you state in your question, it's most likely "instinct".

Overexcited emotions and irrationality. You cannot argue with a beast that solely runs on hormones. Men can be stubborn, but we know when we are wrong. When men lose arguments we turn into sarcastic smartasses. As far as men not having the ability to listen, we listen. We hear every word and take it into close consideration. Half the time we just don't care. Most times it would be highly offensive to say what we're really thinking, so we are much wiser for keeping our mouths shut. The truth will make an emotion explode and men know this. Many of us have been splattered with emotional guts.

A woman's emotions are her keenest tool. They wield their emotions in an argument like a sword. You cannot argue with an emotion. However, emotions are a weakness, and the key is to turn these emotions back on them. Accept their hormonal changes and use it to your advantage to weaken them. Turn their sword back onto them. I have no idea how you do this. I'm too good of a man to resort to such tactics.

For a woman to always be right, she shows a weakness. If the man knows the truth of the matter, and he is intelligent, he can let her be right, and then use her hypocrisy to his advantage.

Basically it's all about emotions, and hormones leading to abject irrationality. Reason gets tossed out the window before the argument even begins.

Rhetorical question. Be careful with the word "always." It's questions like this that lead women to the belief that they ARE always right. :)

Personally, I admit when I'm wrong these days. I didn't used to, but when you're with a good man who respects you, there is no need to be "right" about everything.

However, you cannot escape a woman's intuition. Sometimes it's wrong. Yes girls, sometimes it's wrong. But it is such a strong feeling at the time that it couldn't be wrong to us.

I tried to give the best answer I could, but I couldn't tell if you were being sarcastic, or actually asking a question.

Same reason men always instinctively believe they are right -- it would be a waste of our time and energy to argue a point if we believed we were wrong.

Dangerous question! Too many women think men are hopeless morons with the brains of a 12 year old. That said, man can be jsut as pig headed if not worse. So maybe it's just human nature and nothin to do with gender

Speaking for myself only, of course, I can often quote years old conversations verbatim... so if you get into a "he said/she said battle with me, chances are I am right. Men will argue when the don't have a leg to stand on. I have four sons and they do it over important matters as well as trivial ones. I won't engage in an all out verbal argument unless my position is one I can defend. However, just for the sake of conversation I love to play devil's advocate sometimes and I've been know to win some of those.

Everyone instintively believes that they are right, men and women. By complaining that women always believe they are right, you're doing the same thing by instinctively believing that you are always right.
