Short of going completely insane (or suicidal) out of existential angst...? :)

Seriously, we don't think much about death until we're confronted with it, because the thought of our own demise tends to leave us too fearful and anxious in order to interact in good ways with others.

People just don't want to think about death constantly, and for many it leaves them depressed, unsettled, and unstable -- unmotivated to even continue.

[Note: I've always had that brooding feeling of mortality for myself and others since I was a little kid, and it's not fun to live with. The inevitable passage of time has been more of an "ache in my bones" than anything else, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.]

Idealistically, I suppose you're getting at the notion that society would be better off if people REALLY understood how fragile life is, how precious life is, and how we are all in the same boat mortality-wise -- and so people would hopefully treat each other with complete compassion, dignity, and respect.

I would hope that would be the case.

But some people would still take it as "life is meaningless" and thus perform whatever atrocities they wanted, rather than looking at it as a way to empathize with their fellow human beings.

I don't see that it would have any effect. Why would it?
