It's going to be very, very hot. Hopefully, you will be staying at a beach hotel with a chilled pool. Poolside at the hotel, you will want a swimsuit. Most swimsuits worn in Western countries will be acceptable at the pool, although thongs are frowned upon. You should have loose cotton coverups that cover your thighs and shoulders to wear when getting from your room to the pool.

For going outside, you will definitely need sunglasses and a hat, as well as suntan lotion. Follow local example, and keep your head covered at all times when you are in the sun. It keeps your scalp, face, and ears from getting sunburned, and also keeps you a little cooler.

Since it will be broiling hot, you will probably spend some time in the malls, where you can walk comfortably. For this, take comfortable walking shoes and loose clothing that covers knees and shoulders. There's a reason why Arabs dress in long flowing gowns--that kind of clothing is much more comfortable in the heat than trousers. So, women will probably be more comfortable in long skirts (below the knee, the longer the better if you don't want to attract attention). Men will want loose cotton trousers instead of jeans.

Don't plan on buying anything more than T-shirts or beachwear in Dubai. Local tastes, especially for young people are a bit different than back home, and prices for anything but souvineer garb or jewelry aren't that great.

What else should you take? A camera, an i-pod for the plane, etc. But as little as possible so that you have plenty of room in your suitcase for things to bring home from your shopping trips.

they had told you what do you need to take with you.( cloth, slipper, towel, sunglasses, hat & sunscreen.....

and if you like I can tell you what can & can't you do there:

Though alcohol is legal in the UAE, you should never ,ever drive whole under the influence of alcohol consumption. If you are caught doing so there will be, at the very least, a steep fine to pay and you may wind up spending a month or more in jail.

It is impolite to photograph people without asking their permission. Avoid pointing your camera at police stations, airports and palaces.

When two men meet it is considered polite for them to inquire after each others families but not each others wives.

If you are in a frustration situation, be patient, friendly and sensitive. Never lose your temper.

You’ll notice that people do not use the term thank you as much as in the west. This is because one is expected to repay significant favors by actions – words alone are not enough.

have a nice time there but I can tell you it will be tooooo hot.

I live here and it gets very very hot.. not only hot but extremely humid too.. so plenty of loose clothing for daytime. some wraps or pashmina maybe if you feel the cold for inside the shopping malls as the air con can be very cool. most restaurants close their outdoor eating terraces in summer months because of the heat so when dining out , you are inside , so its just the same clothes you would usually wear then.Plenty of sunscreen , and a good camera. also you might want to pick up any alcohol you would want to drink at duty free on arrival because you cannot buy alcohol in dubai unless you are a resident with a permit to do so. You can obviosly buy in bars and hotels but you cannot buy a bottle of wine etc, unless you bring it in from duty free. Enjoy

I was there last June and it was over 40 degrees, so plenty of loose cotton - Personally, I find Linen a pain in the bum in the humidity as it creases and you can only wear it once or twice - and who wants to worry about ironing on holiday???? Be respectful in your dress tho' - shorts not too short etc. You may not be allowed in some holy places if you are not sufficiently covered up, however, this doesn't mean you have to wear a Burka - just use common sense.
Also, sounds stupid, but take a light jacket or woollen, as the temperature can drop in the evening and also, some air con. can be a bit ferocious!!
Enjoy yourself

It says on the news reports that it is always 40C in Dubai. My ***!!! that is 40C in the shade, the real temp is about 45C and often more with high humidity. Take cool clothing and lots of sunscreen. In any case, Dubai is a shoppers haven so do not bring much as you are bound to shop and buy things.

Best thing to do is not take a lot. Wait till you get over their and buy all your clothes / sunglasses/ toiletries etc etc etc. verything is about half the price you pay in th UK and much better selection.

Do your research before you go best site I found in a long time is www.tripadvisor.com

Light cotton, linen and silk. You will want to cover up yet stay cool when you are out of your hotel. You should also leave space in your suitcase as shopping is great and you'll be able to get some really great stuff. It will be very hot but dry so you won't feel uncomfortable about the heat.

It is so hot in the summer. You may find you need a small sweater going in and out of athe airconditioning all the time. It also might give you a sour throat, I alway get sick after visiting Dubai. But it is fun, jsut too hot in the summer.
