Soccer just has a reputation of beign boring in the US. Every other country in the world will tell you it is anything but boring
You might argue that there are very few goals, game play is slow, and set plays dont work as well as they do in american football.. BUT
scores could be higher if they decided a goal was worth 6 points and a corner kick 3.. I mean, football doesnt really have that much more scoring if you think about it..
its a much more active game than baseball, those guys stand in one place for 90% of the game! with one dude doing all the work.
You can't really compare it to golf, because golf takes hours.. and its only fun to play, watching it is as fun as watching grass grow
And part of the appeal of soccer is the globallity of the sport, and even more the simplicity.. a game of soccer could be played anywhere in the world and they would know how.. get the ball in that square.. using your feet.. done! try explaining american football that easily

That's what I used to think. (Well, maybe not golf, but boring at least). But I was sick during the world cup for a week and had to lay on the couch so I decided to watch a game. I was suprised to find out I liked it. It's actually non-stop action. There are no stupid time outs and commercial breaks, the clock never stops. No guys scratching themselves and looking around for 2 minutes before throwing a pitch. If you base it on just scoring alone, then you will think it's boring. But even though the score may be 1-0, there may have been several exciting close calls where the goalie had to make a great save or a defender deflected the ball. If you have never watched a game before, I suggest you try it at least twice before you write it off as boring. You may be suprised.

Well not really but its real close. and the 2nd part of your answer isnt a question but a statement. Golf is more boring than soccer unless tiger woods is playing. Yeah soccer participants are gay. In spain there was a particpant who bit another participant in the balls. NOTHING like that has happend in the usa. The world likes soccer so what? 20 years ago communism used to be the most popular form of government. Basically you can engineer someone to think camels shitting is interesting. its proof that soccer fans do have lower intelligence. (The racist chants in europe is proof). You dont get that kind of **** in any north american sport. So basically just cause something is popular doesnt mean it doesnt suck.

I'm tired of people asking this question but I will continue to defend football(soccer). If almost everyone else in the world likes it then how is it soooo boring? The world with so many various cultures and history must be a pretty boring place! If you think soccer is boring, I must say that shows ignorance. I recommend that you take time to understand the game and then you will fall in love with it just as the rest of the world.

That's an ignorant statement.
Nothing is more boring than golf except watching grass grow.
If you want to know why people like soccer try watching a whole game. It gets exciting. Golf never does
.
What I don't like is having good TV shows pre-empted for Wimbledon.
Do people in this country care that much about tennis?

Understading a sport brings out the fanaticism in the person. Witnessing awesome plays_smelling the excitement of the fans in the stadium, the colors that represent the team and the players, the chants sung to give the players that extra push to victory. Soccer is more than a feeling. It is life-it's very excistence brings tears to my eyes.
If you cannot understand this feeling, you will never enjoy the sport.
It is the ability to dominate the ball to do what you want it to do. To fool your oponent when scoring the goal or passing the ball in unimaginable ways.

The sports you prefer are tied directly to the sports you experienced and were encouraged in growing up. I was raised participating in soccer, basketball, softball, tap, ballet, and gynmastics.
I enjoy them all, but I prefer soccer.
On the other hand, I had little experience with American Football and no experience with Hockey. Because of that, I do not understand the games and I do not enjoy watching them

soccer is more of a team effort,& most people like to bond.It is
also more physical & there's instant gratification.
With golf, there's little action. You're on your own.And who wants
to just be a spectator?
