Does no-one remember being a teenager, ok i know theyre terrors sometimes, but what have they got, ....nothing, life must be very frustrating for alot of kids nowadays and i dont think that boot camp army and prison are always the answer, i think alot has to do with poor parenting skills, im not trying say this to be negative, i think parents have a very hard job and they are expected to know what to do, trial and error results, and error tends to take the lead, kids pick up on this and work it to there advantage, who wouldnt given the chance, but stupid laws have given them the edge now, saying you cant smack your children ect... how ridiculous, that is what put the icing on the cake, the goverment should provide more assistance for the problems they have caused.

Some people do actually respond well to discipline which we see in the Cadet Forces in this country. However the flip side of the coin is that these people may be the opposite of this and rebel against any sort of authority. By sending these people to a boot camp you may do more harm than good.
Maybe though we shouldn't train them to handle weapons or fight though. It could be Boot Camp but with skills suitable for civilian life perhaps.

i think this was tryed with the "short sharp schock" or some other nice sound bight initiative and was then revoked
my main concern is will a brutal solution actualy help or just alinate the ofenders more
there used to be a measure for people involved in football violance and other such crimes that involved the convicted person attending a centre during saturday afternoons and thus depriveing them of there plesure and giving them some training at the same time that was got rid of too
whatever i dont belive that any sort of militry training which is in esence desined to turn a rational person in to an order taking killing macien is good for criminals unless you intend actualy giving them a job in the forces and i doubt that the modern profesional armed forces would want them maby in the days of waterloo or perhaps the first world war

ithink the boot camp idea will work with some youngsters and at least they will know we haven't given up on them unlike when we throw them in inappropiate prisons with an hour out each day.Yes i do remember being a teenager and being bored and even doing some really silly things but they didn't include making other peoples life a misery or constantly destroying peoples property I do know they are very poorly catered for, don't moan if your not prepared to do something like lobbing for better sports falcilitys and cheaper

Your idea has great merit, and it was used in Hong Kong, not for recruiting people for the army but as a means of deterring juvenile crime and was called 'Short, Sharp, Shock' and was virtually a boot camp, with the shaved heads, double-timing etc. It was a harsh wake-up call to many punks and the fear perhaps was promoted by the director of the facility as he was the official hangman for the colony, though it was many years since they hung anyone. The lawns of the grounds were manicured, nary a leaf out of place and I saw many youths trembling as one of the guards went past. They didn't use physical abuse or corporal punishment but a hard regiment and only a few...very few ever returned to custody.

Maybe, just maybe, if there were not as many 'do gooders' in the system AND they were to bring back the old borstal policies, then boot camps may not be needed.
Bad Lads Army - getting close to it. But they should be kept IN for the full course - why let them go when it suits them?

Though I agree that boot camp may work for younger, first time offenders, the older, more ingrained criminal would only take advantage of it. Pretending to "get it" only to reoffend once released. I do believe that if boot camp were used more often, fewer young people would reoffend, cutting way down on recidivism.

Society seems to be producing an endless supply of these morons. Anybody think like me, that it could have something to do with one parent families ( an oxymoron), political correctness, liberals and left wingers who have ruined education. Nobody is allowed to touch wrongdoers, not parents or teachers. Get rid of the EU, left wing and liberal governments, PC, feminism, the obsession with rehabilitation, allow the police to do their real job, and you might have a chance.
There also seems to be a correlation between the increasing influence of women in society, and the resulting acceleration in the decline of standards of behaviour.

They need to bring back the chain gangs. Get the prisoners to fix and build roads. Get them to clean up the litter.
Or
Put them on old disused ships out in the ocean and get them to sand the rust off it and then paint it. By the time they get round it will be time to sand the rust off again. Just keep them doing that.
