A septic tank also known as a septic system is a small scale sewage treatment system common in areas with no connection to main sewerage pipes. In North America approximately 25% of the population relies on septic tanks; this can include suburbs and small towns as well as rural areas. In Europe they are generally limited to rural areas only.

The term "septic" refers to the anaerobic bacterial environment that develops in the tank and which decomposes or mineralises the waste discharged into the tank. The alterative to a septic tank is to use an aeration system.[1]

No need to worry. If the guy in question had a East London accent he was calling you a 'Yank'. Septic Tank is cockney rhyming slang for American people. If he wasn't a Londoner and just indiscriminately called you a Septic then you might have to accept that he may have been referring to your bodily odour. Keep Smiling!

That's not very nice I'm sorry to say. A septic tank is a big concrete tank, buried under the ground, where waste is captured from indoor plumbing. Waste water from your kitchen, washing machine, bathroom (including the toilet) all usually runs there. They're used mostly in the country where there is no sewer system.

Wow, that's mean. A septic tank is a tank used to store waste (mainly toilet and shower wastes). Homes not connected to a sewer system usually have a septic tank.

A septic tank is a sewage-disposal tank in which a continuous flow of waste material is decomposed by anaerobic bacteria.

When used as an insult, it either means you are full of **** or you smell very bad.

In the country, we don't have sewer systems. The septic tank holds the waste we flush down the toilet and decomposes it.

A septic tank is a large underground resevoir used to collect sewage from your house (poop/pee etc) People in rural areas often have them because they are too far from the town to be hooked up to the sewage system.
