Is this why there is so much violence today?

The part of "but words will never hurt me" goes out the window very early the first time someone hurts your feelings or your pride. I don't believe either part has any connection to the violence we have today. I think the violence comes from parents not teaching their children self-control over their anger and respect for self and others.

It should go str8 out the window right after you say it. In reality, yes sticks and stones may "break bones' but words do hurt. I don't care who you are, there has never been a person who has not been made fun of and it hurt them deep down on the inside.

It should never go out the window-name calling is a coward's method at getting to people and helps them cover their own inadequacies, your already ahead on points if it starts cos it means they are jealous of you-I get loads of stick cos my wife is gorgeous and we are happy-i often feel so sad for them-truly.ktf.x
