I am trying to decide on dissertation topic. I am a social work student and have an interest in psychology. I would like to explore the use of pscyhology within social work - for example, should psychology be left to the professionals, or can it be used carefully by social workers when there are long waiting lists. Need to find useful books, articles, journals etc.

Good resources are databases such JSTOR, Elsevier, ISI, Business Source Premier, there is also a good Industiral Psychology website, www.sosig.ac.uk, there is also the Industrial Psycholgy Journal which you would have to subscribe to, but which is also very useful.

I would not give up just yet, a topic with little previous data menas it is an original idea, but seek advice from your tutors and lecturers they will often be keen to help and advise you.

Good Luck!

You are operating on the premise that social workers are not professionals...eliminate this bias or your work will be prejudicial. If you are serious, look at Studs Terkel's work on the American Worker. He goes into serious examination of the professions chosen by the working class and can provide you with a lot of reference work.

I agree with ResearchTissue. Although a dissertation on this would be awesome, there's just not enough out there for a lit review.

omg are you lazy. Do the research yourself.
Social Workers need to have their head examined anyways. To do that job you start off idealistic thinking you can help and become a brain dead pencil pusher withing 15 minutes.

Q. What is the difference between a child pscyhologist and a rabid Rotwieller?

A. You have a far better change of getting the child back off the Rotwieller, undamaged!
