Brodeur once he surpasses Roy's win total. Which should be his when it's all said and done. Richter is the single most overrated goalie anytime, anywhere, on any level in the entire history of hockey. He had 2 runs. 1993-1994 season (with an undeserved All-Star Game MVP..game was at MSG) and playoffs and the 1996 World Cup tournament.

Ever? George Hainsworth had 22 shutouts in a 44 game schedule. Ken Dryden won either a Rookie of the year, Vezina trophy, Conn Smythe, and or Stanley Cup every year of his career. Marty Brodeur has had an outstanding career, as has Patrick Roy, Johnny Bower, Turk Broda, Terry Sawchuck, Jacques Plante, Glenn Hall, Bernie Parent, not to mention the goalie the award is named after, Georges Vezina. Like comparing apples and oranges. I have been a fan of goalies since Roger Crozier won the Conn Smythe in a losing effort against the Canadiens in the early 60's. I lived in Edmonton during the 80's run and Grant Fuhr used to drive other teams crazy with some of his saves. The best ever...Sawchuck with Ken Dryden close behind, in my lifetime. Honorable mention to Roy(although I hated him) , Brodeur and the tandem of Glenn Hall and Gump Worsley for the St.Louis Blues during the first couple of years of expansion in the late 60's.

In a seven-game series? Patrick Roy, hands down.
For a win? Martin Broduer, he has the most wins (among active goalies) in the NHL, since he started.
For a shutout? Tony Esposito, still holds the single-season record. And he did it in a time when there were guys named Gretzky, Bossy, Lafluer and Dionne playing.

KEN DRYDEN of winning 6 Stanley cups in 8 years of playing the NHL winning the Calder trophy as rookie of the year. this is his 8 year career stats.(397 GP, 225 w, 50 l, 61 tie, 2.23 gaa 40 so) he retired early for his other career and was elected in the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1983. Patrick Roy and Martin Brodeur are up there also number 2 and 3. and watch out for young Cam Ward he is the real deal he won the Memorial cup and won a Stanley cup not to many players have done that and hes a kid and we are going to see allot of him for years to come, hopefully not wearing a Canes jersey for long.

I think Patrick Roy was the best goaltender ever. Patrick Roy was the inspiration for so many current goaltenders. His "butterfly" style is what's making goalies good...they're all imitating their childhood idols. Temper and personality aside, Roy is the best goalie hands down.

Brodeur is good too, but you have to realize that Brodeur plays with an impressive defense...he's well protected.

Glenn Hall far and away. Stuck most of his career on fairly poor teams yet lifted Chicago to its last Cup in 1961. Made 11 end-of-season all-star teams, won the Smythe and Calder trophies and 3 Vezinas. Invented the butterfly style of goaltending. Threw up between periods and before games. Plus his nickname says it all--Mr. Goalie!

Terry Sawchuk.

He won 447 games and recorded 103 shutouts, the latter a record that still stands to this day. Check out his page on wikipedia to understand why this guy was king way before the days of giant pads.
