It would create more wealth in the US. The democrat voter base is the people who need the government to protect them (welfare).

More wealth means more jobs, less wellfare. There goes the democrat voter base....

Cost-benefit analysis. The environmental costs will be huge and borne by locals for many decades. Local job creation will mostly low paying and temporary; oil companies tend to bring in their own people rather hire locals for many positions. And the oil produced will be small in quantity and tapped out after only a few years.

Since we all know that oil is a finite resource, we need to go after the problem, not stick a band-aid on the the symptom. The answer isn't to destroy our wilderness areas for the eeking a few more months of fuel for a doomed system. The answer is for Americans to use less oil.

By the time we drill for the oil and get it refined it will take over 5 years and by that time what good is it. Oil is peaking right now and why do you think we are in the middle east. We don't need to destroy our wildlife for oil that we can get over there. There's is not even a lot of here. It would not make one bit of difference with the amount they can pump out of North American soil. The only people it will benefit is the oil companies and refineries. All you have to know is that anything this administration wants to do is bad for the American people. Good for them but bad for us, its pretty simple.

Well its a matter of personal power political power and economics. It is common for Democrats to have holdings in Occidental petroleum. It is also to there advantage for the economy to look crappy. If we were to upgrade our refineries and increase our own drilling the price would go down they prefer to keep the price high so that people blame the republicans. They approach the matter from a ecological stand as to keep critics at bay. Most Critics don't know how strong of a hold that party actually has. Most of occidentals holdings are in mid east countries. They are willing to sell us out for there own personal and political gain. This is the reason they act like they are anti war.

Seems like the Democrats have a pretty good idea, use up the rest of the worlds oil first, while pretending to protect the environment!

I really do wish that we could keep our few remaining wilderness areas, but, my friends, we're going to have no choice at some point if we want to survive for just a little longer. Energy is destined to be the most fought-over resouce on this planet, and no wilderness areas are going to last.

It's not just democrats that don't want to ruin the natural beauty of this world just to satisfy a few greedy people (mostly republicans)who refuse to find renewable resources for energy.
