I recently discovered that I lost or misplaced the only ignition key to my 1994 Eddie Bauer Ford Explorer, and I was wondering what it would take to get a replacement.

It is possible that the dealer can get the key code by looking up the VIN. If not any locksmith can make you a key.

Do you have AAA? They provide lost key locksmith service as part of your membership.

A Ford dealer can only cut keys from the VIN for years after 1996. If you bought the vehicle new, it is possible, but not probable, that your dealer may still have your key code in his records. A locksmith, or a new lockset are probably your only options. A new lockset ($116.23) is still available if you do not have anti-theft but not available for anti-theft vehicle. Good Luck
