The answer is easy, Operation Barbarossa became the focus of Hitler's war effort. The fatal mistake Goering made was to stop the bombing of the airfields and radar facilities in southern England and switch to the bombing of cities. The RAF/Bomber Command was nearly brought to its knees in the words of Air Marshall Harris. The 'miracle' was similar to the miracle at Dunkirk when Hitler halted its tanks allowing a large portion of the BEF to escape.

It isn't a question of either one or the other. Hitler always intended to invade Eastern Europe incl Soviet Russia. So far as he was concerned nations only deserved to survive if they expanded and took what they wanted from other nations.
Because Germany had little by way of overseas colonies, he wanted to establish an Empire in the East, where the Germans could exploit the people and the land - and if a few millions of 'em died in the process, it was their own fault for being too weak to fight back.
This is the so-called fight for Lebesraum - or life-space - he reckoned the Germans had too little land to prosper as he thought they deserved.
All this is quite separate from his disgusting antisemitism - he didn't think the Jews had land he wanted, he just hated them.
Hitler gave up on the invasion of Britain because he couldn't get over the Channel - the RAF and British Navy were in the way.
And did you know that Britain only stopped *paying* for Lend Lease this year - 2006? America didn't give us stuff free gratis and for nothing, you know.

because the air campaign failed to bring England to its knees. instead the emphasis was on starving the island through a persistent campaign of merchant marine warfare - and it almost succeeded. Had it not been for the U.S. lend-lease program (giving England all the ships it needed) and the development of the convoy system of merchant marine protection, England would have succumbed. The invasion of the soviet union was not delayed by the campaign against England, but was delayed by Hitler having to bail out Mussolini from his mis-adventure in Ethiopia. The three month delay virtually guaranteed failure to take Stalingrad before the onset of winter.

the RAF and the Luftwaffe had fought to a staggering draw in the air battle of the west. the Brits were done until U.S. lend lease started to re-arm them. Hitler's focus in 1941 shifted to the east he wanted to defeat Stalin then he could deal with the west.

Hiltler did this in a speech to the German people for propaganda. The Volk (people) were concerned about the mushrooming war theater and Adolf was good at claiming he offered peace but the Brits wouldn't take it. Effective radar is what gave the edge to GB.

He wasn't going to invade England without ruling the skies and the RAF kicked hiss *ss in the sky big style Jim. Plus, yes, Operation Barbarossa (invading Russia) was more important to Hitler at the time.
