NJ is having some cap problems right now, that Elias contract didn't help out.
I'm sure they will be signed, but look for a lot of weird moves by the devils, i.e. one-sided trades, sending players to the minors ala Alexander Mogilny.

Its not even a question if the Devils ought to or not because at this aspect, they don't actually have a decision. Scott Gomez obviously needs a sparkling commence and to attempt the free agent marketplace. as a count of actuality, Gomez has already reported that he will bypass the free agent route and to work out what's obtainable. He also suggested the Devils have by no skill contacted him to barter considering they were eliminated from the playoffs. Its quite sparkling he's not gonna be a devil next 3 hundred and sixty 5 days and only a count of what crew he will be with next 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. may be the Rangers. may be the Flyers. we are going to see.....

They're certainly going to try, but by the same token, they're certainly going to have to pay Gionta a hell of a lot more. He currently is making $627,000, which of course I would take any day of the week, but when a guy scores 48 goals and has 41 assists, you better make some cap room for him because he's going to cost you.

They'd be crazy not to.

Both of them proven all-rounders who have been serious contributors, both of whom did a fantastic job last season, both of whom were leading scorers both for the Devils and in the league in general (I think Gionta was 15th overall and Gomez 23rd -- not too shabby). I'm sorry, why *not* re-sign them?

They've kept their best forwards so far. Elias is on board, Langenbrunner, they've signed Rupp -- they have their key players (except Freeze *sniff*).

What's thin is D, still.

Even though it's not going to happen, I'd love to see Gomez in either Vancouver or Edmonton.

They sure need to. They will be hurting if they don't. Brian had one heck of a season and Gomer was as dependable as always.
