I've been ready some of the answers here and pretty much everyone is calling Materazzi racist. A most of you might NOT know one of the footballers in the italian team is from Argentina (Mauro German Camoranesi). This player is respected by Materazzi and the rest of the team regardless of his nationality. That should rule out racism. The simple truth is that Zidane has an anger managment problem. It's not the first time that Zidane has carried out such an offense. He has ended his career dishonourably and the Golden Ball should be taken away from him. FIFA should tolerate such childish behaviour. Italy won the world cup. They deserved it. Materazzi didn't hurt a player. Zidane did. So, any comments?

I agree with you. People like to use the racism excuse for everything that happens in the world. They scream out racism in order to justify violence and stupid acts such as what Zidane did!!!!! The truth of the matter is, is that two competetive men we're fighting for a victory and it got carried away with nasty words, in the end Zidane lost his cool and acted like a pure idiot in front of a billion viewers. Zidane and Franch fans in order to wash away the shame immediately come out saying that Materazzi was racist.....GIVE ME A BREAK.....you lost and the cup is now in ROME!!!!!!!

sorry ... italy deserved the cup
comparing camoranesi and zidane is laughable..
if camoranesi is a muslim ..maybe.. racism comes for different things
zidane i think is sorry that he did this to his own team

but honey if materazzi didn't hurt anybody .. you are kinda wrong.. there is also emotional hurtful darling .. if you have being at the receiving end of it you will understand

zidane being maybe only 2 years elder to the other chap..but still having so much experience should have refrained from it..

but the end of the day his actions was not good somebody like zidane is far,far a talented player than materazzi (even if you include the head-butting incident)

Sorry, but I totally disagree. What does Mateerazzi having a colleague from Argentina have to do with how you would treat an opponent of North African Arab descent? Materazzi knew exactly what he was doing, how insulting it was. If you lived in Europe, you'd be aware of the racism, not against Latinos, but the "beurs," the North African Arabs. Zidane was born and raised in France, and here's this guy deliberately putting him down, not in the usual sports banter, but in a way that has been outlined as unacceptable by FIFA.

It still seems that people still favor Zidane. OK if that is everyone's opinion fine, so do what Zidane did, next time someone insults you head-butt them and use that as your defense in court and see if it hold up....

BUT also Materazzi was wrong for the insult remarks that he made, but still does not mean it is ok to attack someone

If I were Zidane,I would not hit him with my head, but I would kick him out of the field. If you said what Zidane did was a childish behavior, then what Materazzi did to Zidane is a shameful behavior

you cant say that against racism! Thats like any one saying "I've got a black friend therefore Im not racist"... THat's horsebull!

Was there a need for Materazzi to say anything to Zidane OR to tweak his nipple? I think not and I think he needed a slap and got what he deserved!

first of all zidane was probably one of the best or the best player in this w, so he deserved the golden ball for his technical skills, the golden ball does not consist of judging upon behavior.

and then , materazzi must have said something serious for zidane to do that without looking back, and i dont blame him for it, he grew up in a poor area where retaliation like that was not uncomon.

I think im neutral on this one.. I think materazzi probably did insult zidane regarding his sick mother or his nationality or his religion. i agree with you that zidane shouldnt have reacted that way (that was veryy foolish of him) and he did deserved the red card. but i think it was the right thing for fifa to hand him the golden ball. he played amazingly in this worldcup, basically singlehandedly led his team to the finals. overalll i think italy deserved to win and im veryy happy that they did, but it is a veryy sad thing for zidane to walk off the field like that.

dont agree
what if u were in place of zidane?
would u tolerate anybody insulting u in the middle of the game when there is so much pressure on u?
just try to think it from the viewpoint of both
zidane would never have done it if matterazzi wouldnt have said anything!

Zidane reaction is worst than any insult.

And he lost both the cup and his dignity cause a true man, as many here claim he is, can stand defeat without finding childish excuses.
