For most search engines, you can't. But there are links on Altavista that allowed you to skip pages.
Take this example.
I searched for "answer websites" at altavista
Then I saw thousands of hits. So I clicked on one of the later pages. I then changed the WEB ADDRESS, for the parameter stq= to 2000, so it would go to item 500 on page 50.
http://www.altavista.com/web/results?itag=ody&q=answer+websites&kgs=1&kls=0&stq=500
Good luck with that. Google is better.

in google you can chnage the page number in the url
i.e
&start=20 = is page 2
to get to the gae you want try dividng the number of pages(you say hits) by 10 and adding that number as above ie
&start=139840

key words rather then long questions. sometimes you have to get to a specific site before doing a detailed search

Why would you want to? At that range it probably only has a word that you searched for, nothing more. Good luck!
