I'm interested in saving at the Pump., If I drive slow I spend more time on the roade which means I burn more Gas. So if I drive faster I spend lest time on the road, but burn more gas for a shorter amount of time. Then the slower I go I burn less Gas but for a longer amount of time. So now which is it that I would be saving Gas or Time?

I don't think it matters how long the journey takes as normally fuel consumption is rated in mpg (miles per gallon), so for example my small 4-door vw does roughly 30mpg @ 80mph but 40mpg at 60mph... so if I travel the same distance it would be more economical to go slower.

I wanted to know the answer to the same question, so I clocked myself and watched the gas mileage on a trip of about 135 miles that I take every week. Keep in mind that I was in the same car, covering the same road each week. At 57 mph, I got 28 mpg, and the trip took 2 hours and 15 minutes. At 70 mph, I got 21 mph and the trip took 2 hours. At 60 with the windows down, I got 24 mph. At 60 with the AC on, I got 24 mph. So now, whenever I have the extra time, I drive at 57-60. If it's hot, I use the AC, since it doesn't seem to affect the gas mileage any more than opening the windows does.

car engines are designed to give best fuel economy at around 55 mph

more specifically the gearing is set so that 55mph occurs at the point of maximum torque
