I have laptop and a PC both having modems and run on Windows XP.how sharing is possible using singlephone line

it is urgent since i want to transfer large amt of files to my laptop as my important docs are in the pc and i do not have a network card.I am having a single phone line.Plzz tell me the solution

You can't make a direct connection between the two machines if you don't have a network card in both of them so you're screwed for that. The simplest and quickest way to transfer data between them is either burn it to CD/DVD on one machine and copy it to the other from using the disc or to use a Flash memory disc which would be easier.

If that's not an option then the only other way is to upload the files to some web space then connect the second machine to the net and download them again. Whether that's viable or not depends on the size of the files in questions and the speed of your net connection though obviously.

the cheap and paramanet solution is to Buy a LAN / Ethernet Card for ur PC. and a CAT5 cross Cable and connect each other through the RJ45 / Lan port and establish connections up to 100Mbps speed.
Cost---- 300 Rs for Lancard, 30 Rs for cable...

Purchase a thumb driver for transfer
Trancend 512 Mb 800 Rs
Trancend 1Gb 1300 Rs

Invest in a USB memory stick (as called thumb drive). You can get sticks up to 1 gig in size. Smaller ones (in the 128m to 256m range are only a few dollars). It will allow you to transfer the file(s) to and from the stick at about the same speed as a ahrd drive.

Copy the file(s), move the stick to the other machine, and copy them over.

Plus you will have the stick for use in the future.
