When the earth is shown as a soccer ball, the moon should be a tennis ball.
Good luck

a simple experiment can be done to ans the kid
if the moon is bigger than the earth then when a lunar eclipse happen the entire earth most likely be block and enter total darkness but its not the case as the moon is smaller than the earth
use a tennis ball and a football and torchlight to demo pretend the moon is the football and tennis ball is earth place the football between the light and tennis ball then tennis ball be totally in the shadow now reverse the role of the ball to show the kid what is really happening in a eclipse to prove to him that what he see during a eclipse is the same as with the tennis ball as moon coming inbetween the earth (football)

The earth is bigger by all accounts. Compare the size by using balls. Use a basket ball for the earth and use a soft ball for the moon.
Hold the soft ball out around 3 feet.
Just an FYI the ratios are not correct but it is the best I can do :)

If you can find out how long it takes the astronauts to fly around the earth and then how long they took to fly around the moon that is also one way to explain - not very scientific but simple. But you'll need to ask another question as I am not sure of the orbit times.

The moon is only about one third the size of the Earth. Also, if he asks why the moon looks bigger than the sun, remind him that the moon is much, much closer.

To be honest, I'm a lttle scared for the child that you need help with this question. Infact I am just as worried for all the people who have answered. It's like: 'what's bigger a pencil or the Empire State Building' and all these people write in with the correct answer. Very scary.

The earth is bigger. Relatively, if one was to subdivide the earth, the size of the earth's inner core would be about the size of the moon.

Earth is bigger.
If you would examine a book with a picture of a moon revolving around the earth and the earth revolving around the sun . . .
the moon is the smallest among the three.
while the sun is larger than the earth. (Am I right?)
that's what I know . .
