in start window all icons work but not on desk top

most probably if some one is doing a prank with you ..then all the icons you see is actually a background....right click on the desktop and go to properties...go to 'desktop' tab and click on customize desktop ...and make sure all the files are checked i.e 'my computer' 'my documents' 'internet explorer'...

Just right klick on the desktop and look under symbols alignment and there you find show desktop icons. Make sure that the check mark is set

all of your shortcuts say that? If this methodology hasn't been got rid of, you could create new shortcuts. click the starting up button, bypass to classes, locate this methodology you want the shortcut to, acceptable click it, click deliver to computer.
