Looking at this in utilitarian terms, if I run away, I make no difference to the world at large. If I don't give a flip, then I'm ethically detached and this also does no positive good to the world. It is therefore better to be a hero, because that means I can commit a positive act that saves someone else.

I regularly get injured saving other people, but I am all of those 3.
I dont care about the injuries, i squeal like a child at pain, i guess im kind of a hero to those I save
