Americans are like spoiled, demanding toddlers who view the world as their playground. When they're told to stay away from a certain area of the playground, they throw the mother of all tantrums and end up getting their way. Unfortunately, the world gives in to these tantrums.

That's just it. If you understand politics at all, you'll know that it's not the people who go to war. It's the politicians who do that. we just go fight and die. You're assuming that one opinion applies to all. It would be the same if I asked why all Brits have floppy ears and bad teeth.
The larger percentage of the American public thinks that we shouldn't be in Iraq but in Afghanistan hunting down those responsible for the 9/11 attacks.

The U.S. can't leave Iraq until it's more or less stable. Maybe America shouldn't have fought that war, but that's a question for history. What matters now is that the U.S. protect its credibility. You may not like the U.S., but I feel pretty confident that if any of most of the other powers of the world achieved supremacy, you'd wish like hell you had the U.S. back.

Obviuosly, YOU don't get it! Being in Iraq is about setting up a new government which will in the future help to destabilize other anti-U.S. governments in the region, like Iran, Syria, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Things are deeper than the government says.
