Batman and his BOYFRIEND Robin, LOVELY couple!

Okay, we've had the coolest, the most socially responsible, the lamest, the most powerful, the most homophilic, now I'm casting my vote for the most self-sacrificing. Long before it was popular for heros to 'die' and then come back, there was the T.H.U.N.D.E.R Agents, and Menthor.

Mentor was originally a John Janus, a double agent who was assigned to infiltrate The Higher United Nations Defense Enforcment Reserves and steal the Menthor helmet, which gave one telepathic and telekinetic abilities.

However, his unknown superiors reckoned without the power of the Menthor helmet, which reformed Janus when he put it on! He couldn't understand why, every time he put it on with the intention of bettraying the UN and handing the helmet over to the (presumed) Communists, he did the opposite of his intentions.

Eventually, the helmet completely reformed him and he stayed honest and good. But when he was captured by the Subterraneans, and used as bait to lead his teammates on the T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents into a trap, he tried to warn them, and despite being shot six times, he ran through the deadly laser beam which they did not know they were about to walk into.

Tower comics, which published the T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents back in the 60's did not have what is so common today, with omnipotent characters who can come back from anything.

It was a true death, they had a funeral where the heroes wept openly and unashamed, and vowed to get the Subterraneans, for John Janus's sake. And the classic art by Wally Wood has made it a favorite and given it status to this day.

Many young people of that era were introduced to the concept of resisting temptation, doing what is right and helping others in a truly self-sacrificial way by this excellent hero.

I don't know if there is a definitive 'best' superhero ever. I have favorite superheroes, though. First and foremost my MAIN girl Rogue; Spider-Man; Wolverine; Cyclops; Sailor Moon and the Sailor Scouts; Goku; Superman; Captain America; Batman; and Storm, among others.

SUPERMAN. He's not "pretty good" Man, or "not too bad" Man. He's SUPERMAN. I mean, every other superhero is measured against him. He is the most powerful being in the DC Universe. And I bet he could kick the crap out of anybody in the Marvel Universe as well.

Well, as far as DC heroes go it's either BAtman or Nightwing.
BAts because he's basically a psycho who will not kill
Nightwing becase he has stepped out of the Batman's shadow to be a hero in is own right.

Marvel's a little tougher to call.
Daredevil because he's no longer a poor man's Batman, and has that superb radar sense.
Bishop because he's the comic answer to Shaft/

Captain Marvel (Fawcet/DC). Why? Because he's taken Superman a bunch of times, w/o a bunch of superfluous powers like Supes has (telescopic vision, microscopic vision, super hearing, etc)
And his comic out-sold Superman in the 1940s.

Wolverine is a good choice too. Not too many powers but he makes good use of his.

BTW Angel, I'm with you. The Spiderman movies didn't even look interesting to me w/ the loser storyline they were pushing.

Spiderman. Except when a dorky loser represents him in a totally changed movie version which was an absolute waste of time, money and didn't stay true to the original story! Apart from that, he rocks man.

Oh there are so many to chose from, but my personal fav is Superman, The pre crisis Superman was almost godlike, not to mention the Post Crisis Superman is awsome.
