The police can take any measures to protect people; but will people agree to these measures whatever they are? I think people would rather die free than lead a life under the police guardianship.

There are huge gaps in our national security. I think the American public is not being adequately protected. It takes events like the 7/7/05 London bomb attacks and the Mumbai, India train bombings on 7/11/06 for the government to beef up security. I'm truly surprised that we haven't had more attacks within the US. Yes, they have foiled some plots, but I believe it is only a matter of time before we see more terrorist attacks on US soil. They have beefed up security in our train stations for now. But it won't last. Americans have been lulled into a false sense of security. We have largely forgotten the terror of 9/11. I believe a visible police and/or military presence would go a long way in deterring terrorist attacks. I also think American citizens should be ever-vigilant and report suspicious behavior.

i think thereis a balance needed between total control and freedom
more security isnt going to help because they will always find a way to achieve their objectives.
however having said that, people will feel more secure and confident to go about their lives with more security although at face value it will achieve nothing. i agree with the previous poster saying that communities can help find these people.
It only takes something like the patriot act to realise that power can be abused when governments use fear to gain more control and take away freedoms..
security will always wither away and lapse after certain periods of inactivity, which is precisely when things will start to explode, just when they think they're safe

Increasing intelligence and detailed searching should be introduced. Life is very precious. People must bear some inconvenience. Undue criticism of Government and politicians is undesirable.

Police force is limited and the area is vast for them to control. Only public can help police to trace terrorists and get control over the situation.
