all i can say - FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think Pedro would need some practise but he is hell of a good driver. being a test driver he is probably very familiar with the car and he can push it to the limit, (hopefully without taking half of the other races of the track.)

Didn't Pedro pull a couple of blinders last year when he was super sub when JPM hurt his arm?
I'm sad to see Juan-Pablo go, and I'm completely not even a McLaren fan. He's a great character in the sport.
I reckon Pedro will do okay, he'll never be a championship winner but he'll score some mid-field points for McLaren. And that's really the best they can hope for.
Maybe he'll be luckier than Juan, but I definitely don't think he's a better driver.

For those of you who do not know, Pedro Martínez de la Rosa (born February 24, 1971) is a Spanish Formula One driver. He was born in Barcelona (Spain). De la Rosa has participated in 64 grands prix, debuting on March 7, 1999, becoming one of very few drivers to score a point at his first race. He scored a total of 6 championship points with the old scoring system, and an additional 4 points in the expanded scoring format in the 2005 Bahrain Grand Prix.

Pedro de la Rosa joined the Formula One series as a test driver for Jordan in 1998. The next year, he joined Arrows and scored only one point in the driver's standings. He picked the point up in the Australian Grand Prix. In 2000, he bettered his performance by one point scoring at both Hockenheim and Nürburgring. For the next two years, he joined Jaguar Racing, having a difficult relationship with the team's lead driver Eddie Irvine. He scored 3 points in 2001 but was pointless in 2002 and was dropped in 2003 (along with Irvine, who retired). He then moved to Team McLaren as a test driver and made a points scoring debut at the 2005 Bahrain Grand Prix when Juan Pablo Montoya injured his shoulder. He got the fastest lap in this race as well. But what I find most interesting about Pedro is that, unlike most drivers,he started his career in European radio controlled off-road cars. He became the Two-times European radio controlled off-road car Champion during from 1983 to 1987

Please note that if a driver is good, he will normally be snapped up - but the driver also needs to have a crystal ball, guess correctly and join a winning team, (look at Jenson Button - boy, did he pick the wrong team!)

I must admit that I thought they were going to employ Lewis Hamilton next season but that they could not use him now because of the contract he is in. So Pedro was chosen as he was the test driver. However, I worry as to where he will be next season. He has to make sure that he really uses the opportunity that has ben given him this time!

Good luck to Pedro - he will need it with Kimi Räikkönen as a team-mate (who seems to have been to the MSc Charm School!) and I am sure he is one of the major reasons that Montoya left McLaren (obviously as well as family reasons)

Update
Ron Dennis has announced that Montoya is still under contract to McLaren. So does anyone know where he stands?!!!

He will probably do similar or better than Montoya. The test sessions made Pedro feel self-confident about the car, describing that he knows the MP4-21 "better than anyone else". Plus, you have to remember that last year, when he filled Montoya's place in Bahrain, he finished 4th after no races for at least two years.
That should get people thinking....

Ron Dennis has vowed to block departed racer Juan Pablo Montoya's immediate NASCAR debut, with the team Principal insisting that McLaren reserves the right to put the Colombian back in the F1 car.

"If we so chose he will test and race again," Dennis insisted. "He is a contracted McLaren driver."

pedro dela rosa is a pretty decent driver he only had a race with mclaren and he scored points in that race, i wouldn't be surprise if he will get a podium finish in his stint. but im not expecting him to be the 2nd driver throughout the season, i suspect they will bring in lewis hamilton as their 2nd driver for the last the 2 or even 3 races

He's a decent enough driver, and he doesn't have to get used to the car or set up like a pay-as-you-go bunny would have too. He's proved himself at wRONg's, and is head and shoulders above some of the bunnies already on the grid, and richly deserves his opportunity to 'bag' his opportunity.
(He did well when he stepped in for Burger Boy Montoya after he fell off his motor bike playing tennis :o) )

De La Rosa has scored points for McLaren before and seems to be more sympathetic to the car.

As a seat filler until the end of the season I am sure he will do very well. As a potential winner, I don't think that he has what it takes even with a good car. would be good to see if he did do well though.
