If you're a teenager, it's probably caused by your bones growing faster than your muscles. It's quite common and, unfortunately, painful.
One thing we scuba divers do to avoid cramps when we are scuba diving is to eat bananas. They are high in potassium. I have a bottle of potassium tablets I got at a health food store that work great. Since I started taking them before diving, I've never gotten a leg cramp.
Good luck

Can be due to bad circulation, or wrong diet. Also depends how old you are! Don's sit in one place longer than 30 minutes, get up and move around a bit. Cramps can also mean you are low on blood sugar. Keep some fruit, juice or nuts handy to munch on.

Make sure you're not dehydrated, rehydrate, if possible something like gatorade, or you can make your own version by taking a cup of water and adding a tablespoon of salt and a tablespoon of sugar to it and mixing it. Drink at least several cups per hour until it goes away. Magnesium pills will also help sometimes, and Dolomite helps for extreme cramps.

The only thing which a doctor will prescribe for cramp is quinine sulphate.
Tonic water does have quinine in it but in very low doses.
How do I know , because my wife is prescribed them and we used to use them for our patients in the hospital where I was a nurse.
