Yes you can use paint thinner, turpentine, or even gasoline in a pinch. These will all dilute oil based paints and allow you to clean the brushes.

I think you can, but i'm hardly an expert.

I recently cleaned enamel paint from brushes and a paint gun using both paint thinner and mineral spirits.

Mineral spirits is the old term for what is commonly called paint thinner.

yes you can, but the mineral spirits are not as harsh to smell or on your skin
