I was looking at the west side of Mexico, maybe on the leg part coming down from the USA. I would like somewhere near the sea and that is small and underpopulated. Any ideas ?

Mazatlan. Nice coast town, but still very much Mexico. Not too much tourism (yet). They have the largest fish and shrimp fleet in the world....food is awesome. The Sharp Hospital (American owned) is here, probably the best hospital in Mexico.People are friendly, and the weather is great (same latitude as Honolulu) Housing and labor are cheap. Pharmacies, grocery stores, and BEER stores have free delivery.

Believe me here--you do not want to live in a small underpopulated place in Mexico--you are much better off thinking in terms of a somewhat larger place simply for the fact that in smaller places it can be very primative and even the most basic of services are just simply not available----you could do no better than Guadalajara---this place is the perfect size --has modern convienences --a thriving arts community--a number of English speakers in residence and from there the ocean side your speaking of is just a hop away as well as the major city of Mexico City---look into it and I grant you --you will be impressed --I have been there on several occasions and every single visit has been a tremendous enjoyment

For proximity to the US border and local facilities, I'd suggest the Rosarito Beach area. Some nice beaches, excellent seafood, super markets, medical facilities. What it lacks in significant architecture it makes up for with nice locals and friendly gringos. Under populated areas are nice places to visit, but hard to live in, no electricity, limited food supplies, etc.La Mision, halfway between Tijuana and Ensenada is a lovely place, still a little bit rural, country-fied, close to the beach.

Drive down the West coast and check out your possibilities. I really like the area south of Puerto Vallarta around Melaque.

Rosarito beach and awesome. Population of no more than 70,000 people. It is secluded enoug to relax and is close enough to the states for you to get your fix on a fast paced life. It's nice there. It's pretty cheap considering it to be a tourist town. Ride dirt bikes? good spot. Clubs restaurants are all nice. Good luck.
