I think if soneone did something so bad that a jury/the judge thinks death is the penalty, i dont think it should be painless. im not talking torure here but if they got death as punishment i dont think the luxury of a pain-free going away party should be part of the deal. what do you guys think?

Interesting.

Your argument is it is okay to use what ever means available just so long as it is legal.

Sounds awfully familiar.

Oh yea, Nuuremburg.

It was legal to gas all those people back then and shove them in an oven, so why not do it?

The answer is simple the pain you are talking about is a crime against humanity. It lowers us as a race to the equivalent of a pack of wolves nawing at some fallin wilderbeast.

We try and make things painless not so much for the convicted person as we do for everyone else. Especially those who feel the death penalty as it stands is inhumane.

And what is the difference? A guilotine instead of a noose or a firing squad? A lethal injection instead of the electric chair or sianide gas? If it makes anyone more comfortable to kill a person painlessly and you have to kill a person at all then by all means kill the person painlessly.

Personally I don't see the difference between the death penalty and murder. It is premeditated killing. The only justification for it is that the person being murdered would murder again if given the opportunity. It's like the fielder's choice rule in baseball, somebody is going to be murdered, who should it be? the guy strapped to the table at least did something to put him in that spot. Whatever guard, or prisoner, or citizen he might kill otherwise, they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Should they be murdered for that reason?

No, pain is unnecessary.

There are so many things in life that are unnecessary. Why should we add to the list?

I am not sure I agree with you although I understand the reasoning behind the sentiment. I've met people in prison and some on Death Row and I think sitting and waiting, knowing there is nothing you can do to change anything and pardon is probably not forthcoming is torture, in and of, itself. Nothing replaces the victims or all that is lost when one commits crimes egregious enough to warrant the death penalty, but purposely making it painful is not the answer either.

I think that, if the process was as painless as possible, some people who object to capital punishment because current methods are "barbaric" may change their minds.

I attended the euthanasia of my cat. After the injection, there was not a twitch or other sign of pain. If a man-sized dose could produce the same results, why not?

The pain the murderer suffers should be proportionate to the pain inflicted on the victim. Did you ever see the cartoon Heavy Metal? Like the one guy says

Hangings too good for him. Killings too good for him. He needs to be cut into little, itty bitty pieces and buried alive

I think it should be painless. They're still paying the ultimate price which is death. WIth lethal injection...some say there is pain involved, but the person is unable to show it. Of course, no one has lived to tell about it I guess. I think the electric chair and gas chamber is torture. There are easier ways to kill someone. These people may be the scum of the earth for the things that they did, but they are still human beings that are about to die. I don't think it's our place to tortue someone to death. Put them to death and then let God take it from there.

Death should not be punishment for any level of crime. No one has got the right to kill a person in the name of judgment. Taking out one’s life would not give a compensation for anything, except the fear, which may make the crime rate less. But, according to me, fear is not the way to make people to follow rules. So, for me punishing to death itself is not OK! So, painless sentence to death is at least…… mmm…Ok.

Death penalty is tragic even if made painless. The mere fact that a person is sentenced to death is already a harrowing experience.

I think the very practice of having the death penalty is barbaric. It can never be justified to kill someone, not even when the state does it.

So I will have to say that it is in place it should be painless.

getting an electric shock is painless nearly, you will die soon! The painful thing is knowing that you are going to die, and entering the room! But they get an electric shock becuase they did something extremely bad, if there were not harsh sentences like these, what would the people do??? I agree with them, because in this way people will think before they act!

i dont think a death penalty should be painless. i mean, first of all, it is the worst penalty you can get. right? and if a person does something really bad that got him a death penalty, then i think the person should get what he deserves: a painful death.
