DO:
Assign yourself a limited account for everyday use and an Administratotr account ONLY for troubleshooting and program installation / deletion. This will keep hackers, viruses, and the mother-in-law out of your computer and business

Treat your computer like the investment it is, and take the best possible care of it

DON'T

Shut down your computer properly; only hold the power button in as a last rsort and NEVER pull the plug from the wall while the computer is on.

Move your computer from a hot environment to a cold environment and then turn it on: this may cause moisture to build up inside the computer.

Install programs from people or companies you don't know or trust. You might as well hang a sign that says: Adware and Trojans, come on down!"

Run your computer too long without dusting out the insides with compressed air or some other air-pushing device

Open your computer to dust out the insides with compressed air or some other air-pushing device without knowing what you are doing.

Brendabigpoints was right about everything she said. She just left something out: don't ever get your computer closer than a few feet from any magnet. And the stronger the magnet, the farther away you should keep your computer. A strong electromagnet, for instance, can destroy a computer that's across a large room from it. Normal speaker magnets aren't that strong, however, and should be kept 2-3 feet from any computer, or computer part.
