liberal by most definitions means free this country was founded on the idea of freedom. free thinking is a no no under the current tyrant.. get out the vote in november and makes things a little tougher on on W....

The early liberals like Thomas Jefferson and most of the founding fathers were liberals when that word stood for small government and freedom from government tyranny.
Todays liberals want the government to take care of their every need. Their answer to every problem that comes up is some social program or government institution.
Early liberals would cry foul of all of the government programs used to take power from the people and put it in the hands of the government.

not sure it really means "free," but if it does, many liberal people are not for freedom for everyone, just their own idea of who deserves freedom.
Do agree that we need a new President, though. I don't want a liberal but would accept one if it's the only choice.

It's not really a bad word. From what I'm guessing, you're from a communist country? Well, if you are, they're just trying to control the people, and with people with liberal minds and thinking about being free all the time, it just makes things harder for them to control. I say, "FIGHT FOR YOUR FREEDOM!" But try not to get into too much trouble...

liberals is just a title for the left wing political movement. and usually refered to those that have a socialist agenda. I have to say i do not like the current government power on one issue and that is overspending. This administration is not truely conservative. But the Liberal movement in the democrats is unnerving as well. They well keep adding goverment program after government program that on the surface looks like its helping the common man.. when in fact its sucking the liberty right out of you. More "helpful" goverment programs = another chain to bind you.

Because the people who think it is don't understand what it means. They accept the extreme definition and portrayal of liberals that right wing propoganda feeds them instead of attempting to understand what it really means. If I believed what conservatives said about me, I wouldn't like myself either! Just as there are a spectrum of conservatives, so exists a spectrum of liberals. Unfortunately, a lot of people allow others to think for them.

Liberal isn't bad. All non-theocratic governments are by definition, liberal governments.
Unfortunately, the term "liberal" has been co-opted by the loonely left in the U.S., and this has lead to the negative context that is in common use today.
