Depends on what you want to do, and your skill level. VB is an easy language to learn, and can be used to automate spreadsheet tasks and other things in Microsoft Office applications. But if you are interested in getting a job programming, or do web stuff, or full blown application programming, you will want to learn Java. However, Java is a bit harder to learn, and is "object oriented."

Yes of course its a gud language to learn.U can create graphical apllications using it that takes time i fwe start with c/c++.
But i would suggest u do that in .net framework.
Using vb.net as code language.

Visual Basic .NET, the next generation of Visual Basic, is designed to be the easiest and most productive tool for creating .NET applications, including Windows applications, Web Services, and Web applications.

While providing the traditional ease-of-use of Visual Basic development, Visual Basic .NET also allows optional use of new language features. Inheritance, method overloading, structured exception handling, and free threading all make Visual Basic a powerful object-oriented programming language. Visual Basic .NET fully integrates with the .NET Framework and the Common Language Runtime, which together provide language interoperability, simplified deployment, enhanced security, and improved versioning support.

These r the few sites that may be helpful to u for learning .net.

Hello,

I am not a big fan of VB myself, given that i am a Linux junky, anyhow If you are totally new to programming then it might be a good idea to start off with VB since it is quite easy to learn. Moreover, it will open your eyes to much of the fundamentals of computer programming such as variable, loops and if-else statements. If you fare well with VB then I'd advice you to move to Java, C++, Python, Ruby or any other object oriented language.

The most important thing is don't consider VB as a language and a platform that you will stick to grasp quickly the fundamentals and move on.

Visual Basic is a Microsoft Computer Language, if you run it from another Operating Systems, your program will NEVER be RECOGNIZED!!! try, C++ and Java!!!

Any language you choose it has it drawback. In my opinion it is up to individuals to choose the platform they like. VB has it drawback so as C++,C#, Delphi, therefore for take your pick my friend and learn what you wish instead of asking someone else. You should make your own mind up and decide.

You see I can say VB is very good bcos I use it furthermore I cud say C#,C++,or Delphi because I use this lingo too. You be confused by this therefore I wud advise you to choose it yourself.

Anything is good to learn.

You could use the free online tutorials I've given you links to below to find out for yourself.

Try the w3schools, and learn all you want about Web Building, including AS and .NET for free, with Certifications for as little as under 60 $[USD]..

All the best.

Cheers
