You know the reason - foreign policy.
I wouldn't say "Americans" - I think that if you asked your typical "American - Hater" what it was about them that they hated, you would realise that what they really hate are American Republicans.
Lots of Americans are fantastic people, just like people are the world over. Your average Republican - let me qualify that - the ones who I've seen on this site - displays the belligerent, aggressive, proudly ignorant, and bullying behaviour that for many people typifies the "American".
A number of people here have attacked France and pointed to the riots as proof that that France is an inferior country. Personally, I think that the riots were a fantastic thing. One of the things I love about the French is that when their government p*sses them off, they will go out and riot! And it changes things. They have guts. Americans behave like sheep - sorry, Americans, but it is true. When I see how passive people are in the USA it gives me hope to see that, in France at least, there is a real democracy.
Americans just accept whatever their government does to them, like spying on them, infringing their civil liberties, lying to them and leaving them swamped in New Orleans. They will never show their displeasure, other than on website forums like this. Impotent rage. They ought to riot!
Civil disobedience is totally unknown in modern America - look at what happened at Kent State or Detroit - the National Guard and Police stomped all over them in displays of thuggery that would have made the 3rd Reich proud.
Blind patriotism. If you ain't with us you're against us. Corny stuff like that, like dialogue from old Western movies.
Anyway, I think your basic premise is incorrect: I think that terrorists are the most hated people in the world. Then Americans...

What do you mean by Americans to begin with? An Indian or what? America is a continent, not a country and I hardly believe that the people in Venezuela is hated by anyone. What do you think of a country that support State terrorism? I am thinking of the ship Rainbow Warrior which was blow up by agents from France. Could such a government be supported by the people in France? I think that you should be grateful to USA as they helped you to get rid of Hitler et Al, when you could not defend your self.

America and Americans are not the most hated people in the world. The line to get in is very long.
The French, on the other hand, are pretty much hated by everyone. Bad attitude. Bad hygine. Bad economy. Bad government.
Heck, even the French Canadians hate the French. And EVERYBODY hates the French Canadians!
However, easily the most hated people in the world today are the muslims. They even hate themselves.

I think Americans are hated because we are perceived as imposing ideals on countries that don't want them. Sure, to Americans a secular country that guarentees the rights of speech, religion and press as far superior to, say, an Islamic Fundamentalist state, because our national heritage prevents us from being able to understand another point of view. While Muslims may be OK with subjugating women because it is part of their largely shared religious and national heritage, we find it unconsciable because that would betray the freedoms we value as parts of our heritage. We don't understand the roiting in France because what they are protesting (the sudden change in job security) isn't expected in America. Since we don't really have that kind of job security, I think many Americans feel the rioting is unjustified. Its all just a matter of how our shared heritage and values differ from that of other countries, and that we seem to be imposing these values on other countries makes us hated.

I don't see the Americans as being the most hated people around the world.
Propoganda is stirred up and people get on the band wagon and go along for the ride but they don't speak for the silent majority.
God Bless America.

i thought the french were most hated next to arabs.because the french are cowards.but they already know that.but i wont judge all the french just because most of them are so wimpy and scared..the women are hot...if they would shave once in a while.the reason we are the richest ,most powerful, and most feared nation in the world,is because we are fearless, and if you rise against us we will take you down..look how many countries we could have taken over but didnt.we come to the aid of the weak because we care about the world and the people in it.and even if france needed our protection we would be there since they are incapable of taking care of themselves.look at napoleon..carried a sward...but didnt use it much cuz his hand was always down his pants playing with his pud.....i rest my case...good day sir.

Because, like everything else in this world, everyone has the wrong conception which was fed to them from stereotypes started by people who are jealous. (I think I should get points for being the most creative in saying everybody is jealous of us.)

Well well well...another America hater. Tell you what, Pierre, why don't you come and live in the US before your opinion of it is set in stone?
I think its entirely unfair you group ALL Americans into one big mass. You should single out the ones that talk smack about your country and take them to task for their remarks.
