earlier my pc was installed with xp home edition...i was able to listen to any audio files...now, i have installed ms xp pro...when i plug in my headphones...there's no audio.

You need the sound driver, try to install the drivers from the original CD that came in with the PC

Make sure your sound isn't muted, Check the Sound properties.
Make sure your sound card is detected by Win XP.. if not.. Install the sound driver, it came with the CD from the Motherboard or PC u buy..

ok...its the problem with your drivers....

or do one thing ...shutdown the computer ....attach the headphone and then start the computer. If its working then the problem was that you were attaching the plug when the computer was running ..which in some cases effects the computer and you wont get sound....

if you still dont get sound then
1) check volume settings
2)make sure that your volume and wave are not kept on mute
3) make sure that your headphones are actually working
4) if u have a volume control on your head phone then make sure that it is not kept on zero volume....

Check:
1) The volume in the task bar is full volume and that it is not muted.
2) The volume balance is in the centre and your speakers are on.
3) In control panel->system, determine if your sound card is detected and functioning properly and the drivers are installed.
4) Ensure the media player you are using is compatible with your new O/S and that its volume is not muted.

you may need to install sound drivers. find and download the drivers from the internet for wim xp pro (or if you have a cd with the drivers, try that) and run the Add New Hardware Wizard

Do you see the microphone icon at the right of the taskbar (near the clock)?
If not, the SoundCard driver needs to be installed

restore your computer with its original cd. because if its windows 98 or and old version it probably won't install xp without messing up something
