I think the word equal is overused(and misused). Humans are not numbers that they should be equal one to the other.
I honestly believe that race and ethnicity has a lot more to do with what we excell at or enjoy doing in life. The example you give of black athletes is a good one. How can anyone deny that blacks have a high percentage of athletically gifted people compared to other races and or ethnicities?
How can people deny an abnormally high achievement by many Asian groups in math?
I believe our race or ethnic group is where we start out. It is a group we belong to that may give us special gifts or attributes. There is nothing wrong with that.
Where it goes wrong is when people decide they don't want to let certain races or ethnicities try things outside what they are "known for". That should never be done.
As a latino living in the US, I don't automatically cry racism because my group is not represented enough in the circle of Fortune 500 CEO's. I am not ashamed to say that in many latino sub-groups, you have a significant percentage of people who's love and zest for enjoying life and family, puts them on a very different career path than a WASP or Jew who may live a life constant denial and sacrifice in order to head a 500 company. In the end, that does not mean that a Latino youth cannot decide to pursue that career path and be successful. That does not mean that a WASP or Jew cannot be more free-spirited, less high-strung, or whatever.
All races & ethnicities have gifts, tendencies, and even faults. However the individuals who make up those groups, are just that; individuals who may succeed at what ever they are willing to work hard and aspire to.
Equality is cliche. It is an overused buzzword that doesn't celebrate human individuality, it is ashamed of it.

Let's get once thing straight. Why do you think blacks have been so successful in sport? Because the avenues in other areas were closed to them. It's all about expectations. For many young African men, the possibility of being a footballer in Europe was their only realisable dream. So they have been motivated to get involved in sports at early ages, particularly as this would allow scholarships to academic insitutions they would not easily have had access to. Whites with greater opportunities took up sport seriously in lesser numbers as a result. There is no such thing as mental or physical superiority between races. We're all born equal, it's just our social opportunities are different. This will even out over time. There are plenty highly intelligent black citizens contributing to the planet, and plenty excellent white sportsmen and women.

That's more of a statistics problem, don't you think? Can you count how many black men have actually participated in those competitions? Because while I know so little about them, I have noticed that black athletes tend to gravitate towards running competitions, while Europeans focus more on over-all body-building. I mean in the local gym I only ever see three regular black men who always seem to frequent the treadmill, while the Eastern Europeans flock all over the weights. I'm neither black nor white, but I really believe it's a matter of which sport speaks to them more. Though of course, black people are ultimately more predisposed to being athletic because of their genetics, and the social expectation that they should be.

I could put it in many other ways but you have a good question in that why is it alright for Black Ns to discriminate but not the white. Just think it will not be long when the blacks and Hispanics will be the majority and us whites will be the minority. Do you think they will give us the same opportunity to freeload as they get now. Seems like I am a racist doesn't it. Not as much as those who try to convince us they are not. Every person on the planet is a racist in one for or another so admit it and then things will improve.

i thought some white people already claimed mental superiority. but you've shot that theory to hell. you are white aren't you? and it was a dumb, rather than thought provoking question. why affirmative action? because of the segregationist policies of this country. contrary to what you think i know white men can jump, and the whole nine yards in other areas too. the only problem is...that some white people feel, they should be the only ones allowed, to do whatever they want. that's called a sense of entitlement. i play golf, but don't worry you can probably beat me at the game. but you can't beat tiger woods i bet.

Don't worry, we prove our superiority every day, on the job!
P.S. Most people won't want to answer this type of question because when we do, (truthfully), the people at Yahoo, deletes it and says we are in violation! But for the record, I know where you are coming from, I agree with you 100% !!!!

White people are NOT allowed to celebrate their heritage or have all white anything. We might step on someones toes. I dare you to try to have an all white college or an all white night club or an all white Church or an all white restaurant.
I see that all other races ARE most definitely allowed to show their pride in heritage. It is just the white folks that descriminate, Didn`t you know that?
God forbid I should fly my southern flag.. It might upset someone. And don`t even think about telling a racist joke. All manner of brown comedians can get on stage and dog talk everyone. But if a white person did that .. Immediately we hate you. And it isn`t funny... It has become rediculous.. Oh, and they will call each other and themselves all manner of N-word and such..
Frankly I am sick of the double and even triple standards.. I Can`t believe how the brown folks whine and cry and moan and groan about everything and everybody.. Poor Poor pitiful them..
It is hard to respect people like this..
I do not mean all brown people obviously. Some are awesome and I have brown friends. And we have discussed this. They agree. It isn`t right to fly your flag, but deny me mine.. It isn`t right to celebrate your heritage (good or bad) But deny me my heritage.. Because your little feelings may be disturbed. It is nothing personal. It is MY heritage. (Good or bad)..
God bless & Hugs from Texas. {:-)

it is not a question of being inferior or superior, this is just a silly game people play because they have their own issues that they can't deal with.
teach ur son the concept of equality and tell him there is one very good reason he needs to stay away from this silly game - no one wins.
