well if u have been watching la liga you will have seen that he has a short temper and he doesnt like being tackled and the ball taken from him. matterazi was just being a defender and zidane of all people knows that . beside he he should have kept his cool only for the reason his team depended on him. "Viera gets injured and replaced , henry gets substituted ". the coach figured zidane would be there to get the ball thru to trezeguet. Then zidanes off.!! It goes all wrong for the coach . poor chap.!! Yes he needs to be sent off NO questions about it!!

I agree with Luke .I know the feeling of being muslim right now sometimes they even called terrorist although no have mistakes at all. the italian SOB is so disgusting by saying words like that. what about if u'r in Zidane's posisition? I also not just headbutt that SOB but kill him too and btw, the referee should give him yellow card only because he himself didn't see what had happen that time. Go Zidane you always be hero of football.PS: I'm a Christian and in my religion we have to honor and respect the other with love from JC not saying words like that.I'm sorry marco M for saying u SOB but u are really did because i know your real mom didn't teach u that way so you are really SOB for sure

I happen to know a famous soccer player (to remain nameless) who has friends that know Zidane personally... I managed to squeeze out of him what the word is on what really happened. Supposedly Materazzi said, "Zidane, how is it being on a team with a bunch of n*ggers?" (Please remember, this is from a reliable source but could be wrong) But still, Zidane is responsible for his own actions NO MATTER WHAT Materazzi said, and deserved a red card.

Because he did headbutt a player it was right to send him off. But if the referee had known what had been said (assuming it was racist), Materazzi should also have been ejected for racial vilification.

Materazzi has a history of being an annoying git, so don't be surprised if what he said was disgusting.

None can answer to insults with violence. I agree with Flavia. Italians received racist insults also from international press and none seemed filled with indignation for that. Racism is always a bad thing, and it is not worse if it is agaist muslims. But when you react with violence to racism, you start a war.
