The sun will expand as it uses up its nuclear fuel, enveloping the earth. Billions of years from now.

There are two ways of looking at this. One is that, everything that has a start will have to end at some point of time if we believe in the fact that our planet had a beginning. In that sense,i think that the concept of the end of the world is not quite distant. But,the one created by nature will always end because of nature only and not becos of any artificial means like Nuclear weapons .Now, the question is what will be that natural phenomenon that will bring an end to our planet. It seems that sun might engulf our planet when the sun nears the end of its lifetime which is pretty true. So, that cud be the phenomenon that will decide the fate of our planet.
But,the other stand which i think is more comprehensive than the first one in answering most of the puzzling questions on the universe is that the planet earth did not have a beginning and hence will not have an end as in nature it is always a double phenomenon.Every creation will have to end and everything that is not created will survive forever. In that sense, i think the planet earth will never have an end and will survive forever.

The sad truth of the situation is that all the weapons in existence at a given time can not end; given that the general use of the term has a definition of destroy, the planet. It could definitely mess the surface up and basically get rid of the life forms but the planet would still be here. I would be more worried about global warming which does not require human help (check the massive die offs such as the one at the end of the Paleozoic and before the mesozoic. It got rid of between 60 to 70 per cent of the life forms in existence including the majority of amphibians and reptiles. Which set up the dinosaurs to take over. To end the world... A small rogue planet wandering into earth orbit from outside the solar system could do it but other than that you will likely have to wait for the sun to become a red giant which is a number of million years and frankly, I'm not planning on holding my breath.

Neither nuclear weapons nor other means of mass destruction can bring an end to the world by themselves. It is rather the ever increasing population and mindless ambitions which may bring an end sooner than the expected. Natural disastrous occurrings and changes ultimately tends to prolong the life of this planet inspite of its destructiong effects.

Who's world? Yours? Are you that afraid of weapons or global warming or some other imagined fear will prevent you in order to live your life with your loved ones? Concentrate on what you have, not how the world will end, because it ends for people every day without their say. Why don't you have some fun and stop worrying about this?
Good Luck

Gullible people will vote for Democrats and socialists who will promise them job security, free health care and world peace. Everyone will wait for the Democrats and socialists to deliver this Utopia. No one will work -- not even doctors, the western countries' armed forces will fall into disarray, Iran will launch a nuclear attack on Israel, Korea will launch a nuclear attack on Japan and the U.S. Islamo-Fascists will nearly overtake all the infidels. Then, in desperation, the remaining governments will retaliate with nuclear attacks and there will be no one left to argue about politics, football (soccer), or American Idol.

According to the Bible, the world of wicked mankind will come to an end but the earth itself will endure forever. That stands to reason since the Earth was not given free will and did not choose to sin against God--only man has had that priviledge and messed it up. The question should not be how but how can a person survive the destruction.

It's going to be a long and protracted process - global warming. A good part of this prediction is based on the fact that I do not believe that the global community has a communality of interest nor the discipline or willingness to make the national sacrifices necessary to address the problem before it is too late.

Or maybe the existence of nuclear weapons is what has actually SAVED the world. If you know history, then you will know that this is the only period, ever, ever, ever, in history where nations have NOT gone to war against France.

The world will end when we run out of contestants for American Idol.
Seriously, we might blow ourselves up, but it probably wouldn't kill all humans and the earth will go on.
Then an asteroids might hit and even wipe out all humans and much flora and fauna, but the earth will go on.
Then the sun will grow big and red and the earth's oceans will boil and the earth may be ripped apart and fall into the sun, but the sun will go on... as a white dwarf.
