If it is done as a couple, and both go to the jeweler to do so, and it is a mutual decision, and you can afford it without sacraficing to much, like keeping the utilities on and other basics, more power to you both, but keep in mind it should be a mutual and reciprocating decision, don't make the choice for him, and don't let him make the choice for you, the foundation for any good marrige is good communication. Assume Nothing!!

You shouldn't exchange your wedding ring.If you want an upgrade from the one you have then you should see if a jeweler can do something different with the setting. If you want a completely different ring than you should keep your old ring as the first symbol of the union between your husband & yourself.Later it will (can) be a heirloom for your children

NO you buy an anniversary ring in addition to wearing your wedding rings.

Not exchanged, but complimented by adding a matching band or adding a setting to the original ring. If this isn't possible, then try to find a bracelet or a nice wristwatch to set it off tastefully. This way, you will always have the memory associated with the ring on hand.

It is a personal choice... to upgrade or not to upgrade. I lost my wedding ring four years ago and had been wearing my grandmother's wedding ring in its place. For our tenth wedding anniversary my husband bought me a beautiful new replacement. It was much bigger than the original and I love it.

No... I'm sure someone spent a lot of time and thought when deciding on that wedding ring... don't trade-in like a car. Just buy a new one. If you feel its really necessary, do what one of the other poster's parents did and just switch out to a larger diamond--but keep the rest of it.

No, your wedding ring should be the ring you wear for the duration of your marrage. You usually buy an eternity ring in addition to your wedding and engagement ring after one year of marrage or on the birth of your first child.

While I would accept a nicer ring on an anniversary...I would never " exchange " my first ring for it....

No.. You do not exchange it.. You deserve a new one in Addition to the original one. You can wear the better and improved one and save the original for your kids. Make sure the more years the more the diamonds..
